Aim
The Alvan Journal of Social Sciences (AJSS) wants to promote high-quality, interdisciplinary research that looks at the difficult social, economic, environmental, and governance problems that modern societies face.

The journal is dedicated to publishing original, thorough, and useful research that:

  • Adds to what we know about the social sciences through theory and research.
  • Brings together knowledge from different fields to solve problems in the real world.
  • It helps shape public policy, institutional practice, and sustainable development.
  • Encourages research that focuses on Africa in a global academic setting.
  • Promotes new ways of doing things and working together across fields.

    AJSS wants to close the gap that has existed for a long time between academic research, policy making, and professional practice. It does this by making sure that published works make a real difference in society.

🌍 The Journal's Scope
AJSS has a wide range of topics that are both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary. This is because it knows that modern social problems can't be solved in separate academic silos. The journal is open to contributions from a wide range of fields that are related to each other, such as:

Peer Review Policy

The Alvan Journal of Social Sciences (AJSS) operates a rigorous double-blind peer review system designed to uphold academic integrity, scholarly quality, and ethical publishing standards.

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening to assess relevance to the journal’s scope, originality, and compliance with submission guidelines. Manuscripts that meet these criteria are assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers in the relevant field.

In line with the double-blind review model, the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed throughout the review process. This ensures objectivity, eliminates bias, and promotes fair evaluation based solely on academic merit.

Reviewers are required to provide constructive, evidence-based feedback and make one of the following recommendations: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject.

The review process typically takes 2–4 weeks, although this may vary depending on reviewer availability and the complexity of the manuscript.

Final publication decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief based on reviewers’ reports, the manuscript’s scholarly contribution, and compliance with AJSS editorial standards.
