This study examined the interrelationships among sustainable mining governance, pollution risk control, and disaster preparedness, and their implications for economic development and conflict prevention in Nigeria’s mining sector. The objectives were to assess the effectiveness of governance frameworks in regulating pollution risks, evaluate the contribution of pollution control measures to disaster risk reduction, examine the role of governance and preparedness strategies in conflict mitigation, and propose institutional reforms for sustainable mining practices. The study adopted a mixed-methods research design anchored on the environmental governance framework and disaster risk reduction theory. Data were collected from mining regions in Zamfara, Niger, and Ogun States through environmental assessments, semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and institutional surveys involving households, mining officials, and regulatory agencies. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), while qualitative data were subjected to thematic analysis. Findings revealed that strongly governed mining sites recorded significantly lower lead concentrations (0.028 mg/L) compared to weak governance sites (0.138 mg/L). SEM results further showed that governance effectiveness significantly reduced pollution levels (β = −0.61, p < 0.001), while pollution control mechanisms reduced disaster frequency (β = −0.49, p < 0.01). Participatory governance also significantly reduced conflict intensity (β = −0.42, p < 0.05). The study concluded that integrated governance, pollution control, and preparedness strategies are essential for sustainable mining, environmental protection, and social stability in Nigeria. This paper recommends for stronger regulatory enforcement, institutional capacity building, participatory governance, and integrated environmental and disaster risk policies.
